As part of the profile-raising of the BID’s ‘Discover Wellingborough’ campaign, we have just arranged to have one of the four Welli buses re-branded. The community bus service serving Wellingborough and surrounding villages has been given a new image to help drive trade into the town, literally!

Continental Market Comes To Wellingborough

Traditional Continental Market comes to Wellingborough from Thursday 23rd May – Saturday 25th May. A feast of delicious food to try and to buy, crepes, garlic prawns, paella, olives, breads, pastries, sweets, as well as traditional goods, hand-made soaps, tablecloths, lace, ceramics, wicker baskets and more… Open from 9 – 5pm in the town centre.

Wellingborough Windows helping to make the tills ring

Thanks to the Wellingborough BID and Kerching Retail, businesses in the area were invited to attend a Window Display presentation evening. The evening was well attended and many of the retailers have already started to make their windows more attractive.

Top tips for creating a stunning window

Design your window on paper before you start on the window.
Keep your display Big and Bold – It needs to be visible from a distance.
Use minimal stock in the display – to draw the eye.
Include movement and light – to maintain interest.
Change your window frequently to keep it interesting.
Have a strong theme.
Introduce a call to action – get the customers to do something.
Incorporate layers into your design
Use props that add interest and position the products at eye level.

It’s a fact that great window displays make the town look better, and encourage people into the shops. All retailers should be aiming to stop a customer in their tracks so that they come into their shop now!

We’ve still got Free Parking!

It would seem that Wellingborough is quite unique when compared to other towns in Northamptonshire. Unlike it’s neighbours, Northampton, Kettering, and Corby, the Car Parking in Wellingborough remains absolutely FREE!.

There are three town centre Free Council owned car parks in Wellingborough:

Commercial Way Multi-Storey Car Park (opposite The Castle Theatre) Opening times – 5.30am-11.55pm.
Jackson’s Lane Car Park (High Street) Open 24 hours.
Sharman Road Car Park (Morrison’s, off Oxford Street) Short stay (3 hours). Monitored by Euro Car Parks on behalf of Morrison’s.

In addition to the town centre car parks there is also a FREE all weather car-park at the Nene Embankment.

If you visit Corby you will need to pay 50p for 2 hours parking in the centre. For Kettering it’s £1 for 2 hours in the Multi Storey, and in Northampton it’s 60p for 1 hour.

So… save your pennies. Come and “Discover Wellingborough”!

When Wellingborough lost it’s model railway shop two local railway modellers, Lloyd Raines and Steve Bridger decided to do something about it! Steve recently retired fire officer and Lloyd then working in the paint industry for ICI, set up The Loco Centre in Wellingborough town centre, opening the doors last October.

Unlike previous Wellingborough model shops, The Loco Centre concentrates purely on model railways. It has launched a loyalty scheme, issues monthly newsletters to customers email addresses and operates a growing mail order service through its website.

The shop offers a comprehensive stock of Bachmann Branchline, Graham Farish Hornby and Woodland Scenics items.

Lindsay Pollard, a customer from Northants says “This shop is well worth a visit. Good knoweldgeable staff who are more than happy to help or just have a chat. Will also order anything not in stock.”
