The Sweet Jar

The Sweet Jar caters for all tastes

Did you know that Jelly Babies were first launched by British sweet-makers Bassett’s as Peace Babies in 1918 to commemorate the end of the First World War? It wasn’t until they were later re-launched in the 1950s that they acquired the name we know them by today.

A quick visit to The Sweet Jar will certainly fill you with nostalgia. Offering more than 240 varieties of sweets from wine gums, fudge and chocolate raisins to pink and white mice, cola cubes and cough candy, there really is something to satisfy everyone’s tastes.

Sugar free sweets are also on sale as well as sweet trees, cones and hampers.

Jayne Bedford, shop owner, said: “We keep our prices real and affordable for everybody. People can come in browse the jars full of a wide range of sweets. I then weigh them out and bag up in traditional white paper bags.

“People come in and say, ‘Oh, I remember that!’. It’s a real treat to come in and browse what we have on offer.”

In fact, Jayne is happy to cater for all your needs from children’s party favours to wedding favours and retirement gifts.

A sweet cart is available to hire for weddings and parties at £150 including sweets, jars, tongs and bags.

“I left the social care industry to start up the shop. I fancied a change and did it! We celebrated our first anniversary on February 20th.”
